Stampeders Camp Report

There was not a cloud in the sky or a breath of wind as the Stamps took to the field for their first practice of the year. An excited crowd of over 500 fans took in the two combined practices from the East stands as Stampeders old and new showcased their skills. Following the morning practice fans took in the kickoff barbecue which was hosted by the Country Cooker.

PLAYS THAT STOOD OUT…

Although several veterans seemed to be in mid-season form on day 1, it was a pair of newcomer receivers that made an early impression on the offensive side of the ball. Ryan Thelwell, no stranger to the CFL, caught a touchdown pass deep down the sideline on a perfectly placed ball from Quarterback Akili Smith. Marc Boerigter made his return to the Red and White with a leaping touchdown grab in traffic from Quarterback Henry Burris.

Defensively, Brandon Haw drew a large crowd reaction as he dove for an interception early in practice and returned it for a touchdown. Also registering an interception was former Texas-El Paso standout Adrian Ward.

In the second session Stampeder veteran Receiver Jeremaine Copeland came across the middle to make a stretched out reception from Burris. Defensive Back Coby Rhinehart started off the ’07 Training Camp in fine form when, defending Receiver Keenan Howry in one on ones, Rhinehart held tight coverage and made a one handed interception 15 yards down the field.
