Shaun King, a 6-0,
225-pound pivot is a six-year veteran of the NFL. In 34 career games, he
completed 415 passes for 4,566 yards and 27 touchdowns. “Shaun has played well at
a very high level,” said general manager Marcel Desjardins. “His savvy, poise
and leadership will be welcome characteristics to this team and his addition is
another significant step in adding quality depth and a new dimension to the
quarterback position.” In 1999, King was selected
by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the second round (50th overall) of the NFL Draft
and became the first rookie quarterback to win a playoff game in 24 years later
that season. After spending five seasons with the Buccaneers, the St.
Petersburg, Florida joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2004. King has also
enjoyed stints with the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions. Most recently, King suited
up for the AFL’s Las Vegas Gladiators. Starting six games, King completed
122 of 228 pass attempts for 1,627 yards. Prior to turning pro, King
played four seasons at Tulane where he started 39 of 41 games. King set
new school records with 9,468 yards in total offense, 8,419 yards passing, 70
touchdown throws, 646 completions and 1,163 pass attempts. In 1998, King
led the Green Wave to their first undefeated season since 1931. |
