Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Posted Apr 17, 2007

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers strengthened their defensive line with the signing of veteran defensive tackle Jerome Haywood.

As per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

β€œJerome Haywood is an import addition to our football club and specifically the defensive line,” said Bombers G.M. Brendan Taman. β€œHis experience and ability will make for some interesting battles during training camp.”

Haywood (5-10, 280, San Diego State, DOB: June 7, 1978 in Los Angeles, Calif.) is a five-year CFL veteran. He joined the Montreal Alouettes as a free agent in 2006 and registered four quarterback sacks and nine defensive tackles in 11 games with the Als last season.

Haywood broke into the CFL in 2002 as a member of the now-defunct Ottawa Renegades, appearing in 11 games that season and collecting six quarterback sacks, 21 defensive tackles and two tackles for losses. He played in 53 games and registered 11 QB sacks, 125 defensive tackles and five tackles for losses during the next three seasons with the Renegades.

Haywood was a three-time all-star with San Diego State University and was a team captain his final two seasons at San Diego.
