Damon Allen commented, “I’m
excited about returning to the Argos, especially knowing that Grey Cup 2007 is
in Toronto. It is our strong desire to win a championship in our home
city. I want to thank the great Argo fans for encouraging me this off
season to return to Toronto. They were a large part of my decision to
remain an Argonaut for another season.” Argonauts’ Head Coach Michael
“Pinball” Clemons remarked, “I would
say welcome back but the truth of the matter is, Damon never left.
Recently, many questioned his ability to lead the team to a Grey Cup again.
History frowns on the fate of those who have gone against him. Damon has
accepted the challenge to compete for the number one position so naysayers
beware. I know Damon is as excited as I am about this season, the season
where the Grey Cup return to the City of Toronto.” Commented Argonauts’
Offensive Coordinator Steve Buratto,
“I’m delighted that Damon has chosen to stay with the Argonauts. I will
evaluate him as an athlete, without regard to his chronological age. He
will come to camp and compete for the starting position. The passion he
continues to show for this game and his skills should put him in good stead to
win the job and take his team to the Grey Cup.” One of the most
accomplished and celebrated players in the CFL, Allen’s 22-year career spans
three decades and includes four Grey Cup Championships, two Grey Cup MVP’s, one
Grey Cup Offensive Player of the Game, one CFL All-Star nomination and one CFL
Most Outstanding Player award. His 71,889 passing yards are more than any other
player in professional football, and his 11,899 rushing yards rank as the third
highest total in CFL history – just 344 yards behind his brother, Pro
Football Hall of Fame running back Marcus Allen’s career rushing total. In just four seasons, Allen
has also carved his name into the Argonauts’ record books. In 2007, he is
poised to become the club’s all-time leading passer, improving on legendary
Argo QB Condredge Holloway’s marks for most passing yards, passing attempts and
passing completions. Allen needs to pass for 3,137 yards, 343 attempts and 143
completions to move into first. Damon Allen - CFL Regular
