The Edmonton Eskimos today announced the release of running back Troy Davis, linebacker Quincy Stewart and defensive back Kelly Wiltshire. | |||
|
Head Coach and Director
of Football Operations Danny Maciocia
says, “It’s always a difficult decision to release players, especially when
they’ve made the kind of contributions that Troy, Kelly and Quincy did during
their time in Edmonton. The new economic realities of the CFL salary management
system have to be accounted for when making personnel decisions.” Davis was traded to Edmonton from Hamilton in October 2005
and helped bring a spark to the Eskimos on their way to the 2005 Grey Cup. Last
season, Davis started 16 games
for the Esks and was the club’s leading rusher with 190 carries for 1060 yards
and four touchdowns. He also had 67 receptions for 546 yards. Stewart spent two seasons with the Eskimos, appearing in all
18 games last season on both defence and special teams. He recorded 37
defensive tackles, 12 special teams tackles, three quarterback sacks and a
tackle for a loss. A 10-year CFL veteran, Wiltshire spent the last two seasons in Edmonton. He played
the first 11 games of the 2006 season before suffering a serious knee injury in
September during the Labour Day Rematch. He recorded 17 defensive tackles, two
special teams tackles, two pass knockdowns and one tackle for a loss. Danny Maciocia media
