Riders Axe Barrett
Saskatchewan Roughriders

Posted Dec 2, 2006

The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced earlier this week that head coach Danny Barrett will not be returning for what would be his eighth season with the club.

“This was a very, very tough and emotional decision because of the immense respect I have for Danny Barrett,” stated Riders General Manager & Vice President of Football Operations Eric Tillman.

“He and Roy (Shivers) deserve a lot of credit for building a solid foundation and, of course, for raising the bar in terms of expectations among our fan base. In personal terms, those of us who know Danny best, know that he is truly a class act.  He is a good person, a devoted family man and he leaves here with the very best wishes and gratitude of all us associated with the Roughriders.”

Danny Barrett was hired as the 25th Roughrider head coach in modern history on January 29th, 2000. His seven seasons and 126 regular season games as head coach are both records for the organization. Barrett posted a 57-68-1 regular season record and trails only Eagle Keys for regular season victories by a Riders head coach. Barrett also had a 3-5 post-season record and helped lead the team to three Western Division Finals.
