The football club
announced today that defensive tackle Doug Brown and offensive lineman Obby Khan have re-signed with the football club. As per team
policy, terms of the deals were not disclosed. Brown (6-8, 292, Simon Fraser ’96, DOB: Sept. 29, 1974 in New Westminster, B.C.) was runner-up for the
Rogers CFL Outstanding Canadian Award in 2006. He finished fifth on the Blue
& Gold in defensive tackles with 51 and added three quarterback sacks and
one special teams tackle in 18 regular season starts. He also started the
Bombers’ lone playoff contest. “Doug Brown is without
question one of the top defensive tackles in this league,” said Bombers G.M. Brendan
Taman said. “Not only does he
provide a significant impact with his own play, he makes the players around him
better.” Brown originally joined
the Bombers on June 16, 2001 following a trade with the Calgary Stampeders. He
has appeared in 103 regular season games in the CFL, all of them with the Big
Blue. He has also appeared in five playoff games and one Grey Cup as a member
of the football club. Brown ranks among the Top
10 Bombers of all time in several defensive categories including career tackles
(216), career tackles for losses 15) and career forced fumbles (eight) Khan (6-4, 205, Simon
Fraser ’03, DOB: Oct. 8, 1980 in Ottawa, Ont.) was everything the Bombers were
hoping for after selecting him second overall in the 2006 Ottawa Player
Dispersal Draft. The imposing offensive
lineman started all 18 regular season games at centre for the Big Blue. He also
started in the Bombers lone playoff contest. He was the only Bomber hog to play
every game this past season. He and the rest of the
Bombers’ O-line helped running back Charles Roberts rush for a league-leading
1,609 yards on a league-best 303 carries. Khan and Co. gave up the second
fewest QB sacks (35) in the CFL this past season. Khan was the team’s
representative for the Rogers CFL Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award. “We are very fortunate to be
able to secure the services of a player of Obby Khan’s caliber,” Taman said. “We
expect him to be a big part of this football club for some time to come.” |
