From the Lark's Nest
Montreal Alouettes

Posted Nov 2, 2006

Well, finally, in the second half we put together a complete effort, and came up with a most crucial victory. There is happiness in Alouette-land today.

The game started off with a rather impressive opening drive.   Sadly it fizzled out and all we got was a single point.  Thereafter, we looked like the dysfunctional team we have become in the second half of the season.  Questionable efforts, dumb penalites.

But, in the second half and particularly in the fourth quarter, we came alive and showed what kind of a team we can become when we keep the brain cramps to a minimum.  It really was two games in one.

In the first half, bonehead penalties on third and inches killed two drives (please, please, KEEP STILL until the ball is hiked; we know the snap count they dont' so there's no excuse for this).  R-Kal Truluck didn't take any dumb penalties, but Dario Romero made up for it by blowing a gasket at an inopportune time.

We also had a rather unusual play; on second and inches, AC stayed in and threw a bomb to Anderson.  Bad point here is (aside from the fact that Anderson made no effort to try to reach what was admittedly an overthrown pass) with AC in standing in shotgun, we were telegraphing to the Argos what we were about to do.  Better to put Brady in to keep them guessing.  Good point was that after his lack of effort, AC didn't throw one ball Anderson's way the rest of the game, and that is a good thing.

The secondary in the first half appeared to be absolutely clueless as to how to cover Arland Bruce, and how to tackle him once he caught the pass.  Fortunately for us, the Argos braintrust suffered their own brain cramp, and basically ignored Bruce in the second half.

The second half saw us cure our woes.  The offensive line put in their best performance of the season; AC was well-protected and the running game took flight; Edwards put in a monster performance; the whole defence tightened up; special teams were just that.  Kudos all around, gang.

Looking ahead, we now have 2 weeks off to rest any lingering bruises, and hopefully get some injured players back (Kent, Diedrick).  It will be interesting to see who we face in the Eastern final....as an Als' fan, can't say as I have any particular preference.  Whoever it may be, here's hoping we bring our A game again as in the second half of this match, and get to the Grey Cup; in one game, anything can happen!
