After watching yet another horrible performance by the Eskimos this season you have to wonder yet again what will happen with the team should they fail (and it looks like they will) to make the playoffs. | |||
|
Should they gut the team
and start over, possibly building around Ricky Ray? They have a fairly young
group of O linemen that could, should start to get better. Perhaps though that
is the problem and the playes that they thought were going to steadily improve
have leveled off and that's as good as they are going to get. They have some young
players on defense that could, should get better with age. Those players I
believe should get more benefit of the doubt than the O line, they have just
been brought in this past season. The O line has been a work in progress the
last several seasons with many of these young players having been here that
long. I heard a comment the
other day that it wasn't so much that the Esks were playing that poorly, but
rather the rest of the league has started to catch up. I think teams like BC
and Montreal have been there with us for the last several years. Calgary has
been knocking on the door and Toronto has been solid for some time (although
they have not looked it this year). It's tough to swallow stuff like that when
you see the same mistakes over and over again. Sloppy tackeling and bad
penalties have nothing to do with the talent level of the rest of the league. The same goes for poor
game planning and missed assignments on defense. We've been over and over
this. I think the Eskimos are going to come out and win Friday night against
Hamilton, but where that leaves them in the playoff race, who knows? The roller
coaster definitely went zooming down the hill on Friday in Hamilton. Cheers |
